Why Am I Not Getting Roofing Leads? A 12-Point Checklist

A practical checklist for Australian roofers who aren't getting enough enquiries, or aren't turning the enquiries they get into jobs. Find the leak before you spend more.

Shoaib RamzanFounder, LeadKites Updated 7 min read 3 sources checked

Most roofers who think they have a lead problem actually have one of three problems: homeowners can't find them on Google, homeowners find them but don't call, or homeowners call and don't get a fast reply. Work out which one you have before spending more on ads or lead platforms. The 12 checks below take about an hour and point you to the cheapest fix first.

Grab a pen, open your phone and your Google Business Profile, and go through each one.

Is it a finding problem, a calling problem or an answering problem?

Before the checklist, sort the symptom:

Are homeowners finding you? (checks 1 to 5)

1. Do you show up in the Google map for your main suburbs?

Search "roofer [your suburb]" and "roof repairs [your suburb]" on your phone, away from your home Wi-Fi if you can. If you aren't in the top few results on the map, that's often the biggest single gap. Your Google Business Profile drives the map. See our Google Business Profile guide.

2. Is your Google Business Profile complete?

Check you have:

3. Do you have enough recent reviews?

Compare yourself with the top three roofers on the map for your suburb. If they have far more reviews, or more recent ones, homeowners notice. The fix is boring and reliable: ask every finished customer, the same way, every time.

4. Are you relying on one lead platform?

If most of your work came from one marketplace and it changed, you will feel it straight away. Oneflare closing on 30 June 2026 is a recent example (Airtasker support). See what happened to Oneflare and shared vs exclusive roofing leads.

5. Is it just the season?

Roofing demand moves with weather. Storms and wet weather bring urgent repair work, and quieter months bring fewer calls. If last month was quiet, compare it with the same month last year before changing everything.

Do homeowners trust you enough to call? (checks 6 to 8)

6. Does your website load fast on a phone and show your number?

Open your website on your phone. Can you call in one tap without scrolling? Is there a simple inspection request form? If the answer to either is no, you are losing people who already chose you.

7. Do you show real work?

Homeowners want to see roofs you have done, ideally in their area. Before and after photos, the suburb, and what the job was. Avoid stock photos; they make a business look less real, not more.

8. Is it clear what happens next?

"Free roof inspection, usually within 48 hours" (if that's true for you) is clearer than "Contact us". Tell people what they get when they call.

Are you answering and following up? (checks 9 to 12)

9. How many calls did you miss last week?

Check your phone's call log. Count missed calls you didn't return within an hour. Research published in Harvard Business Review found that companies contacting online leads within an hour were far more likely to reach a decision maker than those who waited (SmartCompany summary). A missed call with no reply is often a job going to someone else. See what missed calls cost roofers.

Put your own numbers in to see what last month's missed calls may have cost:

Estimated value left on the table

$8,119

a month, or about $97,425 a year. This is an estimate from your own numbers, not a promise. Even if it's half right, one saved job a month pays for LeadKites many times over.

10. How fast do forms and messages get a reply?

Send yourself a test enquiry through your website and your Facebook page at 8pm. Time how long it takes for anyone to reply. Homeowners notice leaks at night too.

11. Do you follow up every quote?

Count the quotes you sent in the last three months and how many you chased more than once. Many homeowners go quiet because they are busy, not because they said no. A few polite messages over two to three weeks win back work you have already priced. See how to follow up roofing quotes.

12. Do you know where your jobs come from?

Ask every new customer how they found you, and write it down. Without this, you can't tell which source is worth paying for.

What should you fix first?

Fix things in this order, because each step makes the next one worth more:

  1. 1AnsweringMissed calls, form replies, booking (checks 9 and 10).
  2. 2Follow-upQuotes and past customers (check 11).
  3. 3TrustReviews, photos, website (checks 3, 6, 7, 8).
  4. 4VisibilityGoogle Business Profile and map ranking (checks 1 and 2).
  5. 5Paid leadsAds and marketplaces, as a top-up (check 4).

Frequently asked questions

Why is my roofing business not getting leads?

Usually because homeowners can't find you on Google, don't trust what they find, or don't get a fast reply when they do enquire. Check your Google Business Profile, reviews, website and missed calls before spending on ads.

How do roofers get more leads without paying for them?

Keep your Google Business Profile complete and active, ask every customer for a review, show real job photos, answer every enquiry fast and follow up every quote. Referrals from past customers and flyers around finished jobs also help.

How long does it take to rank on Google Maps as a roofer?

It varies by area and competition, and nobody can promise a timeline. Improvements to your profile, reviews and website usually take weeks to months to show up in rankings, which is why fixing answering and follow-up first gives faster results.

Are quiet months normal for roofers?

Yes. Roofing demand rises and falls with weather, especially storms and wet seasons. Compare a quiet month with the same month last year before assuming something is broken.

Should I buy roofing leads?

Paid leads can fill gaps, but they work best once you answer every enquiry fast and follow up every quote. Otherwise you pay for leads that go to the roofer who called back first.
