Is Airtasker Worth It for Roofers? An Honest Look in 2026

How Airtasker works for roofers in 2026, what the service fee costs on a real roofing job, and when it fits a roofing business (and when it doesn't).

Shoaib RamzanFounder, LeadKites Updated 7 min read 5 sources checked

Airtasker can fill gaps for a roofer, but it is built for small, one-off tasks, not $8,000 restorations. Quoting is free, and you pay a service fee of between 11.9% and 20% (excluding GST) out of each completed job. On a big roofing job that fee can run into four figures, so most established roofers treat Airtasker as a top-up, not a lead source to build a business on.

This page explains how Airtasker works for a roofing business as of October 2026, what changed when Oneflare closed, and what the fee looks like on real job sizes.

What changed for roofers in 2026?

Airtasker bought Oneflare in 2022. On 30 June 2026 it retired Oneflare and pointed the Oneflare website and app at Airtasker. Airtasker's own help page says it made "the difficult decision to retire our sister brand and platform Oneflare on 30 June 2026", that some Oneflare categories "have been redirected to Airtasker", and that Oneflare auto-renewals were turned off from 1 June 2026 (Airtasker support).

So if you used to get roofing enquiries through Oneflare, the homeowners who would have posted there are now pushed towards Airtasker instead. That is why a lot of roofers are asking whether it is worth setting up an Airtasker profile. We cover the wider story in What happened to Oneflare.

How does Airtasker work for a roofer?

Airtasker is a task marketplace. A homeowner posts a task with a description and a budget. Taskers (that is you) send offers. The customer picks one, and payment is held by Airtasker until the job is done.

The key points for a roofing business:

  • Quoting is free. Airtasker says "Quoting on Airtasker is always free" (Airtasker support).
  • You compete on every task. Airtasker says there is "no limit to the number of offers" a customer can receive on a task (Airtasker support). On a popular job you may be one of many.
  • The fee comes out of your payment. Once the job is complete, a service fee is deducted from the money Airtasker has held.
  • The customer also pays a fee. In Australia the customer's connection fee is 15.95% of the task value, with a minimum of $4.90 and a cap of $49.95, unless they have an Airtasker membership (Airtasker connection fee).

How much is the Airtasker service fee for roofers?

Airtasker charges Taskers a tiered service fee. Its help centre says that, excluding GST, "the highest rate is 20% and the lowest rate is as low as 11.90%". Your tier (Bronze, Silver, Gold or Platinum) depends on your completion rate over your last 20 assigned tasks and your earnings over the past 30 days (Airtasker service fee).

Here is what that range means on typical roofing jobs.

Example (illustrative job values, fees at the published lowest and highest rates, excluding GST):

Gutter clean

Job value
$350
Fee at 11.9%
$41.65
Fee at 20%
$70

Leak repair

Job value
$900
Fee at 11.9%
$107.10
Fee at 20%
$180

Ridge re-point

Job value
$2,500

$297.50
Fee at 20%
$500

Tile roof restoration

Job value
$8,000
Fee at 11.9%
$952
Fee at 20%
$1,600

For small jobs the fee is about what you would pay to get a lead anywhere else. For a full restoration, it can be more than many roofers spend on marketing in a month.

Who it suits / who it doesn't

Airtasker can suit you if:

  • You are new, have spare days and want small jobs to keep cash moving.
  • You do quick work: gutter cleans, small leak repairs, minor tile replacements.
  • You are happy to compete on price and reviews inside the platform.
  • You used Oneflare and want to keep some flow while you build your own leads.

Airtasker probably doesn't suit you if:

  • Most of your revenue comes from restorations, re-roofs or insurance work, where a percentage fee gets expensive fast.
  • You want customers to come back to you directly for their next job.
  • You don't have time to watch the app and send offers quickly, because popular tasks attract offers fast.
  • You need steady volume you can plan crews around.

What should a roofer do instead of relying on Airtasker?

A marketplace is rented demand. When the rules or fees change, your pipeline changes with them. Oneflare's closure is a good reminder of that. The more durable mix for a roofing business looks like this:

  1. Get the Google Business Profile right. Most local roofing searches show the map first. Categories, service areas, real job photos and steady reviews matter more than anything you pay for. See our Google Business Profile guide.
  2. Answer every enquiry fast. The enquiries you already get are the cheapest ones you will ever have. If calls go unanswered while you are on a roof, a missed-call text-back catches them.
  3. Follow up every quote. A quote that goes quiet isn't always a no. A simple follow-up sequence wins back work you have already priced. See how to follow up roofing quotes.
  4. Use marketplaces as a top-up. Keep Airtasker or hipages for gaps in the calendar, not as the plan.

If you are weighing up the different lead sources, shared vs exclusive roofing leads goes through the trade-offs.

Where LeadKites fits

To be upfront: LeadKites sells services in this space, so read this section with that in mind. We are not a marketplace. We don't sell you leads that go to other roofers. We set up and run the system that answers every call, text and form within 60 seconds, follows up every quote for 21 days, and helps you build leads you own through Google Maps and your website.

You can use LeadKites alongside Airtasker. Many roofers keep a marketplace for small jobs while building their own leads. Our cheapest starting point is the $497 Quote Reactivation Sprint: we follow up your old quotes for 14 days, and if it books zero inspections you get your money back. We don't promise a number of jobs. Prices are in AUD and no GST is charged.

Frequently asked questions

Is Airtasker free for roofers?

Sending offers (quoting) on Airtasker is free. When you complete a job, Airtasker deducts a service fee from your payment. As of October 2026 that fee is between 11.9% and 20% excluding GST, depending on your tier.

Did Oneflare roofers move to Airtasker?

Oneflare closed on 30 June 2026 and its website and app now redirect to Airtasker. Airtasker says some Oneflare categories were redirected to Airtasker. Your Oneflare profile and reviews were not described as transferring, so you would set up separately on Airtasker.

Is Airtasker good for big roofing jobs?

It can work, but the percentage fee makes large jobs expensive. On an $8,000 restoration, a 20% fee is $1,600 before GST. Most roofers prefer their own leads for big jobs and use Airtasker for smaller work.

How do I lower my Airtasker fee?

Airtasker uses tiers. Higher tiers pay lower fees, and your tier depends on your completion rate over your last 20 assigned tasks and your earnings over the past 30 days. Completing the tasks you accept is the main lever.

What is the best alternative to Airtasker for roofers?

There isn't one platform that replaces it. The most reliable option is building your own leads: a strong Google Business Profile, a website that books inspections, fast replies and quote follow-up. Marketplaces like hipages are another paid option with a different pricing model.
